An information meeting was held at the office of the Mtskheta-Mtianeti Regional Division of the Department of Environmental Supervision of the Ministry of Environmental Protection and Agriculture with a representative of the Public Defender’s Office on the topic: “Asbestos: A Hidden Threat to Human Rights.”

Jemal Bortsvadze, a representative of the Mtskheta-Mtianeti Regional Office of the Public Defender’s Office, provided the Department’s employees with information on national compliance with labor safety, health protection, and the right to a healthy environment. He also briefed them on key issues identified in the special report of the Public Defender.

The meeting was conducted in an interactive format. Particular attention was paid to the identification and management of asbestos-containing materials.

“During the meeting with the representative of the Public Defender’s Office, we received more detailed information about the significant health risks associated with asbestos and how asbestos-containing materials can be identified. This information will also be useful to the Department’s employees in practice, as one of the priority areas of our work is to ensure effective state control over waste management,” stated Sergi Tabatadze, Head of the Mtskheta-Mtianeti Regional Division of the Department of Environmental Supervision.
