Poaching Incident Detected on the Alazani River
As a result of a joint operation, officers of the Kakheti Regional Division of the Department of Environmental Supervision under the Ministry of Environmental Protection and Agriculture, together with personnel of the Border Police of the Ministry of Internal Affairs, identified a case of poaching in Dedoplistsqaro Municipality.
Near the village of Sabatlo, on the Alazani River, within a protected area, the offender was engaged in illegal fishing using a prohibited fishing device - a large drag net. The individual had illegally caught up to 6 kilograms of European catfish.
The relevant reports of administrative offence were drawn up against the offender.
The patrol crews of the Department of Environmental Supervision conduct continuous 24-hour monitoring nationwide to ensure the timely prevention, detection, and suppression of illegal fishing, hunting, and other environmental violations. In addition, they provide immediate responses to all reports received through the Ministry of Environmental Protection and Agriculture’s hotline (153).
