The Department of Environmental Supervision has identified cases of illegal logging and timber transportation in the Mtskheta-Mtianeti region

As part of efforts to combat illegal forest use, employees of the Mtskheta-Mtianeti Regional Division of the Department of Environmental Supervision under the Ministry of Environmental Protection and Agriculture of Georgia have identified three cases of illegal logging and timber transportation in the municipalities of Dusheti and Tianeti.

In the vicinity of the village of Zemo Tonchi, within a state forest, a citizen illegally harvested three beech trees and subsequently transported the timber unlawfully.

In Tianeti Municipality, a citizen was transporting approximately 0.5 cubic meters of elm firewood in a motor vehicle traveling towards Akhmeta without the documentation required by law.

The motor vehicles were sealed. Three administrative offence reports were drawn up against the violator under the relevant articles of the Code of Administrative Offences. The case materials have been forwarded to the relevant authorities.

The patrol crews of the Department of Environmental Supervision conduct continuous 24-hour monitoring nationwide to ensure the timely prevention, detection, and suppression of environmental violations. Immediate action is taken in response to every report received through the Ministry’s hotline (153). As a result, 823 cases of illegal forest use have been identified nationwide over the first five months of the current year.
