The Department of Environmental Supervision Identified Three Illegal Sawmill Operations in the Imereti Region
Employees of the Western Regional Division of the Department of Environmental Supervision under the Ministry of Environmental Protection and Agriculture of Georgia identified violations in the municipalities of Khoni, Terjola, and Kharagauli.
In the villages of Matkhoji, Godogani, and Tsakva, citizens had installed one unregistered band sawmill and two unregistered circular sawmill machines in sawmill workshops set up within their residential properties.
Illegally obtained primary wood-processing products were removed from the territories.
As both cases contain elements of criminal offenses, the materials have been forwarded to the relevant authorities for further action.
The patrol crews of the Department of Environmental Supervision conduct continuous 24-hour monitoring nationwide to ensure the timely prevention, detection, and suppression of environmental violations. Immediate action is taken in response to every report received through the Ministry’s hotline (153).
During the first five months of the current year, 31 illegal sawmills were detected across the country.
