The Department of Environmental Supervision Identified 642 Cases of Violations of the Waste Management Code in May of the Current Year
Employees of the Environmental Supervision Department of the Ministry of Environmental Protection and Agriculture identified 642 cases of violations of the Waste Management Code during the period from May 1 to May 31, 2026.
Of the violations, 123 cases involved environmental pollution with municipal waste: 42 cases of environmental pollution with construction or other inert materials; 41 cases of open burning of municipal non-hazardous waste or its burning in inappropriate combustion facilities; 21 cases of land pollution with sewage and/ waste; 9 cases of environmental pollution with animal carcass waste; 70 cases of non-compliance with special obligations related to corporate waste management; 15 cases of non-compliance with requirements and obligations related to hazardous waste management; and 321 other violations.
The highest number of violations– 167 - was recorded in Kakheti, 136 in Kvemo Kartli, 67 in Shida Kartli, 53 in Samegrelo–Zemo Svaneti, 45 in Imereti, 45 in Mtskheta-Mtianeti, 41 in Adjara, 18 in Samtskhe-Javakheti, and 2 in Guria.
Violations were also recorded in the capital. In May of the current year, 68 cases of violations of the Waste Management Code were identified in Tbilisi.
The patrol crews of the Department of Environmental Supervision conduct continuous 24-hour monitoring nationwide to ensure the timely prevention, detection, and suppression of illegal fishing, hunting, and other environmental violations. In addition, they provide immediate responses to all reports received through the Ministry of Environmental Protection and Agriculture’s hotline (153).
