The Department of Environmental Supervision has identified four illegal sawmills
Employees of the Department of Environmental Supervision of the Ministry of Environmental Protection and Agriculture of Georgia identified violations in the Guria, Samegrelo and Imereti regions.
In the villages of Chochkhati in Lanchkhuti Municipality, Dzveli Khibula in Khobi Municipality, Dikhashkho in Vani Municipality, and Banoja in Tskaltubo Municipality, citizens had installed unregistered circular sawmill equipment in their household yards, while in one case, the equipment was installed at a privately owned stone-crushing facility.
A total of 12 logs were seized from the territories of illegal sawmills identified in the Guria and Samegrelo regions.
As the four cases contain elements of a criminal offense, the materials have been forwarded to the relevant authorities for further action.
Combating illegal forest use is a top priority for the Department of Environmental Supervision. The patrol crews of the Department of Environmental Supervision conduct continuous 24-hour monitoring nationwide to ensure the timely prevention, detection, and suppression of illegal logging and other environmental violations. Immediate action is taken in response to every report received through the Ministry’s hotline (153).
Within the framework of combating poaching, the Department actively uses modern technologies. As a result, during the first four months of 2026, 20 illegal sawmills have been identified across the country.
