The Department of Environmental Supervision has identified a case of illegal extraction of mineral resources in Kvemo Kartli
Employees of the Kvemo Kartli Regional Division of the Department of Environmental Supervision under the Ministry of Environmental Protection and Agriculture have identified a case of illegal extraction of mineral resources in Marneuli Municipality.
In the vicinity of the village of Qizilajlo, the offender illegally extracted 472 cubic meters of basalt stone using heavy machinery.
The environmental damage caused by the violation exceeds 2,500 GEL.
As the case contains elements of a criminal offense, the materials have been forwarded to the relevant authority for further response.
The timely Prevention, detection, and suppression of illegal use of natural resources is a top priority for the Department of Environmental Supervision. The patrol crews of the Department of Environmental Supervision conduct continuous 24-hour monitoring. In addition, they provide immediate responses to all reports received through the Ministry of Environmental Protection and Agriculture’s hotline (153). As a result, within the Kvemo Kartli operational area alone, employees of the Regional Division identified 10 cases of illegal extraction of mineral resources in the first three months of 2026
