The Environmental Supervision Department rescued injured birds - a heron and a snowcock, which is protected under the Red List
Employees of the Environmental Supervision Department of the Western Regional Administration, under the Ministry of Environmental Protection and Agriculture, transferred an injured heron from Terjola Municipality to the Tbilisi Zoo, following a report received via the hotline (153).
A Red List-protected snowcock was found in Kazbegi Municipality by officers of the Kazbegi District Police Department of the Ministry of Internal Affairs and handed over to the Environmental Supervision Department. Employees of the Mtskheta-Mtianeti Regional Administration temporarily transferred the bird to the Tbilisi Zoo. Both birds received appropriate veterinary care at the zoo.
After recovery, the birds were returned to their natural habitats – the heron was released in Krtsanisi Forest Park, and the snowcock was released in Kazbegi Municipality by employees of the Environmental Supervision Department.
Employees of the Environmental Supervision Department, during the course of state control activities, may encounter injured species that could be subject to legal violations. For this reason, the Department investigates every such case. Injured birds or animals are transferred by Department staff to the zoo, where they receive appropriate veterinary care. After recovery, the species are returned to the wild. Rescuing injured birds and animals is not an uncommon task for employees of the Environmental Supervision Department,” stated Giorgi Kurtsikashvili, Head of the Wildlife Control Division of the Biodiversity Control Service at the Environmental Supervision Department.
