Cases of illegal logging and transportation have been recorded in the municipalities of Shuakhevi, Keda, Lanchkhuti, and Ozurgeti. The case materials have been forwarded to the relevant authorities for further legal action.
In total, a large quantity of illegally harvested timber has been seized, including 109 round logs of various species, of which 4 are Red List-protected oak logs, 11 cubic meters of sawn timber, and 27 pieces of cut, unprocessed pine.
Combating illegal forest use remains a top priority for the Department. The Environmental Supervision Department’s patrolling and urgent response crews carry out continuous 24-hour monitoring across the country and implement preventive measures to ensure the timely prevention, suppression, and detection of illegal logging and other environmental violations. Immediate response is provided to every report received through the Ministry’s hotline (153). Within the framework of combating poaching and other environmental crimes, the Department actively employs modern technologies, while enforcement mechanisms and sanctions have been strengthened. Of these, 67 cases contain elements of a criminal offense, and the materials have been forwarded to the relevant authorities for further action. It is also noteworthy that in 2025, the employees of the Adjara and Guria Regional Offices identified 17 illegal sawmills.
