The Department of Environmental Supervision has identified 10 cases of illegal logging

The Department of Environmental Supervision of the Ministry of Environmental Protection and Agriculture has identified cases of illegal logging in Adjara, Guria, Samegrelo, Samtskhe-Javakheti, Kvemo Kartli, Mtskheta-Mtianeti, and Kakheti.

On state forest territories, citizens illegally harvested up to 40 trees of various species. In total, approximately 8 cubic meters of firewood and 57 round logs were seized.

The Environmental Supervision Department’s patrolling and urgent response crews carry out continuous 24-hour monitoring across the country. Immediate response is provided to every report received through the Ministry’s hotline (153).

As part of efforts to combat illegal logging, the Department actively employs modern technologies and has strengthened sanctions.

It is noteworthy that a reform is underway in the forestry sector, with one of its main objectives being the strengthening of forest monitoring and control.

As a result of systematic measures, the number of illegal logging incidents has decreased in recent years. In 2025, compared to 2024, cases of illegal forest use fell by approximately 13%. Looking at the statistics over the past five years, illegal logging incidents in 2025 have decreased by roughly 50% compared to 2021. A decline in violations is also observed in monthly figures for the past and current years. In January 2026, compared to January 2025, the Department identified 127 cases of illegal logging, 20 fewer than the same month last year.
